March 2013

What’s next for Zunderbaum?

gwSaar will transform the site into a commercial and industrial area at a cost of just under 22 million Euros. The first companies should be able to build their new operating facilities there from mid 2014.
Initially the society planned to demolish most of the existing buildings in order to then be able to construct on the entire area, with modern developments, of course. However now the plan has changed: “Originally everything was to be removed. The old buildings are no longer in line with today’s technical standards, e.g. in relation to safety and energy efficiency”, confirms Jürgen Brettar, Company Secretary at LEG-Service GmbH. LEG Service is the central service provider for the sectors of planning, supervision, project management and facility management in the SHS Group and thus also for the SHS subsidiary gwSaar. It was commissioned by the affiliate and former manager SBB Saarland Bau und Boden Projektgesellschaft with the entire project management for Industrial Areas Masterplan Saarland. Ultimately all the companies are under the umbrella of SHS Strukturholding Saar, a 100% subsidiary of federal state.

“Five companies who were former lessees on the site have purchased their location, with the existing buildings. This only relates to the southern part of the area”, Jürgen Brettar continues. “As these companies were already located in Homburg we wanted to provide them with positive support in their development”, he explains. Approximately one quarter of the area is already occupied. The demolition of the remaining existing buildings will take place at the beginning of May 2013.

It will then be possible to create new parcels, independently of the current situation and in accordance with the requirements of the companies that wish to relocate here. “We will offer optimum flexibility”, stresses Barter. “We already have enquiries”.
