Self-determined housing supported by WOGE Saar. Handover of keys on December 10

`Acting self-determinedly also implies a self-chosen living environment. Therefore, we welcome any opportunity enabling us to offer living space that is largely barrier-free, as is the case here on the Goethestraße. And the high demand proves us right`.
Also the Minister praised the project: `Self-determined housing is a human right that is entitled to all people, no matter whether they have a handicap or not. I am very pleased to see that this principle could once more be turned into practice here`.

`Creating barrier-free living space` as a future commitment

Following its optimization in terms of energy efficiency and barriers, the building was fully let within only two months. `A fine and successful project`, so Rita Gindorf-Wagner, managing director of WOGE Saar. `I am very delighted about the good cooperation and communication with our partners. WOGE Saar is well prepared to meet the high demand and will continue creating additional living space without barriers`.
The building on the Goethestraße in Homburg is a semi-attached apartment house near the city center. It is owned by WOGE Saar and belongs to a carrée stretching out from Goethestraße to Lessingstraße and Schillerstraße and providing an open green space inside. The housing company gutted the building, extended it and attached an elevator shaft. On each of the four floors, two 50-60 sqm apartments suitable for disabled persons were created within one year.

As much independence as possible – as much assistance as required

The Homburg project excellently fits the concept of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband to provide living space at city centers. This enables tenants, wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility, to access the outpatient services of GPS. For coping with daily tasks might necessitate this. At the same time, and this is of immense importance, the apartments enable people to keep their independence.

Also, the fact that this inclusive housing project for physically handicapped people will be supported for a period of three years by funds of the AKTION MENSCH is positive.

WOGE Saar, by the way, possesses seven more residential buildings with 47 apartments nearby. In Homburg as a whole, the company owns 23 residential buildings with 137 apartments.
