Dedication held for extended and modernised building of the social jurisdiction – SHS CEO Schuck hands over the key

Inauguration of eye-catching extension building

All those involved expressed gratitude to the employees of both Courts for ensuring, over a period of almost two years, that the day-to-day business of the Courts carried on smoothly despite all the hardships and problems associated with the renovation work.

On the one hand, the construction work saw an extension added to the Halbergstraße side of the building, housing courtrooms bathed in natural light for both courts along with the appropriate waiting areas. On the other, the existing building was given a make-over in terms of energy efficiency, the roof was renovated and the façade was fitted with upgraded thermal insulation. The former courtrooms in the existing building were replaced with offices. A handicapped-accessible lift was installed, and the basement was safeguarded against flooding.
With the installation of ventilation systems and the establishment of a courtroom management system, directly accessible consultation rooms, rooms for lawyers and mediation rooms, the courtrooms have been brought into line with the requirements of contemporary justice.

The costs remained did not exceed the originally settled framework of 5.2 million euro, and the majority of the associated commissions went to companies from within the Region.
The overall building project was handled by Strukturholding Saar, acting as a contractor commissioned by the Saarland state government.

SHS as a PPP (public-private partnership) contractor

This project is one in a series of PPP projects conducted in a manner friendly to small and medium-sized enterprises and benefiting Saarland-based businesses in particular. The term “public-private partnership” denotes a modern, efficient way for administrations to do business. Such partnerships are a part of the Federal German Government‘s innovation offensive, and as such are designed to bring about more attractive pricing for public infrastructure projects by means of a long-term collaboration between the public and private sectors. The efficiency benefit – on average, 10 percent – constitutes a potentially significant contribution to the consolidation of the budget.
