Logistik-Drehscheibe Saarland auf Münchner Leitmesse

From June 4th to 7th the SHS subsidiary gwSaar, Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation, will present Saarland as a logistics location at the ‘transport logistic’ trade fair in Munich. Thirteen logistics companies from Saarland will be able to use this trade fair, which is recognised internationally as a leading event, to make new contacts. They will all represent their range of products at the Saarland stand. On June 5th there will also be an opportunity to exchange opinions on the topic of ‘Saarland as a logistics location – development for the future’ in presence of the Saarland Secretary of State Jürgen Barke.
The trade fair application IRMA, a joint development by gwSaar and HTW, will also be presented at the fair. This product is an interactive RFID-based application that enables visitors to the trade fair to quickly and easily obtain information on Saarland as a logistics hub. The application will be presented by gwSaar Managing Director Thomas Schuck and Secretary of State Jürgen Barke, who is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board at gwSaar.

Why is the logistics industry attracted to Saarland?

Saarland is located at the centre of the European Economic Region and offers companies optimum local conditions for networking across Europe. 33 million units of transported goods and more than 300 logistics companies make it one of the most important logistics locations in Germany. Besides the geographical location the excellent traffic infrastructure in Saarland also makes it an ideal location from which to serve the European continent. Many international companies have based their production facilities and logistics centres here. For example the international logistics service provider Dachser and Amer Sports Group, one of the largest sporting goods manufacturers in the world, chose Überherrn in Saarland as a location for their European distribution centres. After all it is possible to reach most areas of Western Europe from here within 24 hours. These two companies alone employ more than 1,000 staff members and more than 6,000 people across Saarland are already working in the logistics sector. Strong brands, a high level of R&D competence and excellent locations are the special characteristics of the Saarland area. The international automobile industry values the inventive suppliers in Saarland. Supporting future industries in the sectors of information technology, new materials, automation technology and health care are being developed here with ambitious goals.

“Major expansion is planned in the logistics sector and large, continuous areas are being prepared by gwSaar for the logistics sector. This will guarantee that this innovative business sector will continue its momentum in future”, says Thomas Schuck, Managing Director at gwSaar. The political and infrastructure connections to all neighbouring states are excellent.

Space for logistics – The Industrial Areas Masterplan Saarland

Given the rapidly developing international logistics network, companies must be flexible, adaptable and agile. But the first requirement besides advantageous geography is a supply of sufficiently large areas: there is enough space at the heart of Europe, in the Saarland. And part of the gwSaar ‘trade fair package’ is the EU-funded Industrial Areas Masterplan Saarland scheme (www.masterplan-saarland.de), which has activated the development of four large, continuous industrial areas with a total area of over 264 ha. Two large areas have already been prepared and the others are currently being developed. “Logistics services are of supreme importance for many national and international companies and can be a decisive factor when choosing a location. Our Masterplan areas, such as Lisdorfer Berg, one of the largest development projects for industrial areas in southwest Germany, allow us to offer excellent conditions for modern companies, and all in the heart of Europe”, says Secretary of State for the Saarland Jürgen Barke.

Internationally recognised as a leading trade fair

The international trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management ‘transport logistic’ has now established itself as an international recognised leading trade fair. More than 2,000 exhibitors from 64 countries, including international market leaders, are present. Approximately 50,000 visitors are expected.
