Another Substantial component for Saar tourism

The new Alm hut on the Reden Slag Heap was inaugurated by the traditional tapping of the barrel ceremony. From now on, the new Alpine-style building will be open every day (except Mondays) from 10:00 – 22:00 o´clock. On the menu are Alpine and Saarland dishes, and the impressive view of the surroundings is added free of charge…

The opening
On Friday, July 7th, the Chairman of the Board of SHS Strukturholding Saar, State Secretary Jürgen Barke, launched the new Alm hut: `We are happy that, besides the Saarland Therme in Rilchingen and the holiday park on Lake Bostal, another major tourist project carried out under the direction of the SHS Group is being launched now. Tourism is as strong and important as never before, the number of overnight stays is rising steadily. It is therefore all the more important to offer our guests attractive destinations. The recently completed ensemble with hut, umbrella bar, beer garden and theme playground will play its part to successfully develop tourism in Saarland.`

Mastered challenges
The Managing Directors of SHS, Rita Gindorf-Wagner and Bernd Therre, are pleased about the completion of the project. `The erection of the hut and the whole complex on the slag heap was a big challenge for our company, especially in terms of building time`, Therre said at the opening ceremony. `In only 23 weeks – less than half a year – WOGE Saar managed to complete the Alm hut in time, to the start of the summer holidays.` And Gindorf-Wagner stressed: `This was only possible thanks to the excellent cooperation and the commitment of the executing companies, tenants and parties involved. So, our special thanks also and before all to our staff. This example again shows the flexibility within the SHS Group. Our strength is that we can provide solutions from one single source.`

The investment in the Alm hut is about 1.5 million euros. A long-term rental agreement with the operator Alm-Event-Gastro GmbH has already been concluded.

Room for everybody
The hut, beer garden and umbrella bar can seat up to 1000 guests, of them roughly 160 in the big guest room (166 sq.m.) and almost 60 in the smaller one (110 sq.m.). The Alpine beer garden with its extraordinary panoramic view is one of the most beautiful ones in Saarland. Two paved terraces in front of the hut and seats around the umbrella bar and on the sides of the hut provide space for about 670 people.
The whole complex also pays special attention to the requirements of handicapped guests: from a barrier-free access to the gastronomy and the interior rooms to a suitably equipped toilet.

Culinary delight
Hut managers Geiger and Schweiz specifically hired a Bavarian cook to prepare Alpine delicacies such as Semmelknödel, Kaiserschmarrn or Käsespätzle. However, also Saarland-typical dishes are offered. Greatest value is attached to fresh and regional products, especially with an eye on ecological products and fair trade. Also a special Alm beer shall be offered.

Celebrate on the Alm
Additionally, various events – e.g. the SR3Sommeralm where over 30,000 visitors in Dirndl and Lederhosen each year climb up to the AlmEbi – attract people to come to the event space on the Alm.  >> View events
